Pore Forming Toxin

Certain bacteria such as Clostridium perfringens have a particularly nasty trick. They produce a potent pore-forming toxin which assembles on cell membranes as a doughnut-shaped complex, before punching a hole and killing the cell. This animation starts from an electron microscopy image of the pore complexes formed on membranes before zooming into a computer simulation.
